Messaging

Want messages from Blob to sound more like your server? Messaging lets you create templates and choose which ones we use for supported moderation actions.

Build a template

  1. Open Messaging → Template Builder in your server dashboard.
  2. Give your template a name so you can find it later.
  3. Choose the action it's for, or Generic for a general template.
  4. Enable the template and write your message content.
  5. Add an embed title, description, colour and any other details you want to use.
  6. Check the preview and save your changes.

You don't need to fill every embed field. A short message with the information members need is often easier to read than a large embed.

Use parameters

Parameters let us fill in details when we send a message. Use the parameter buttons in the builder to insert the ones available for your chosen action.

For example, a warning message could say:

{user.mention} was warned by {moderator} for {reason}.

Moderation templates can also offer parameters such as {duration}, {caseid} and {server}. Generic templates have a smaller set. Choose the action first so you're using parameters that will be available when the message is sent.

Choose where it's used

  1. Open Messaging → Configure Templates.
  2. Find the moderation action you want to customise.
  3. Select your saved template and save your changes.

Creating a template doesn't automatically make it the message for every action. You'll need to select it here. Choose Default Blob message if you want to go back to our normal message for an action.

Check your message

Try a suitable action in a test channel or with a test account before relying on the template. Make sure the wording makes sense, the parameters are filled in and Blob can send messages and embeds where they're needed.

Avoid putting private staff information in a template that members may receive.
